Learning,
Energy, And Self-Image:
Maximizing a Child's Potential
A
workshop designed for Parents, Educators,
Pre-school Directors, Therapists, Pediatricians, and
anyone who spends time with children.
The
workshop is offered as 3 single sessions over 3 consecutive weeks OR as
a one day workshop held from 9 am to 4 pm.
Three
2-hour presentations include the following concepts and opportunity for
discussion:
Session
1:
The Sensory-Motor basis for learning - A
child's motor and sensory development is critical to a child's later learning
ability and attentiveness in the classroom. In the early years of life,
foundations are laid for a good body image, balance, fine motor skills
and visual perception. In this session we will discuss specific sensory
motor components of learning, how they fit together, what to look for,
and what can be done if you suspect problems.
Session
2:
In the course of a typical day, we experience
different levels of energy or states of alertness. These variable levels
can be range from low or lethargic, fatigued, disinterested, apathetic
to high or alert, energetic, enthusiastic. The "How Does Your Engine Run"
program promotes awareness of how individuals regulate their energy alertness
levels through the use of sensory motor strategies. These concepts apply
to children of all ages from pre-school to high school.
Session
3:
How our children view themselves is formed
from many sources: how well they perform activities, feedback from peers
and adults regarding how they look and expectations of desired performance.
This view through others' eyes can hurt or heal a developing self-image.
In this session we will discuss how to give our children a healthy understanding
of their identity as a valuable and treasured child.
